I've Lost My Sheen

Once I shone, oh so bright, that I could always see for miles
My body bathed in satin light and strangers turned to see my smiles
Now the dark and deepened dusk has settled down beneath my eyes
My tired resolve sinks with the night and no-one looks here for surprise
I've lost my sheen - but I still shine for you inside.

Once I sought the whereabouts of everyone I knew
Instinct drove me, I sat tight and watched myself speed through
Now I hover where roads meet and tread the empty air
I fall into an aimlessness and wonder why I'm there
I've lost my way - but my heart knows the road to your heart

Once I burned with firecrackers bursting from a flame inside
I'd set alight the drowsy night and roar until the fire died
Now I watch the flickers fade, the damp and dying glow
My wild and fiery self-assurance stifling below
I've lost my spark - but fireworks blaze when I see you

Once I stared out at the world and made the population shy
I'd stand upon a precipice, cross my fingers, dive and fly
Now I turn my head away if the world should look at me
And hide beneath the hanging rock that once announced me dotingly
I've lost my nerve - but I still dare scream I love you.
